F C Lor

Frankie Lor began his career as a rider in Hong Kong, notching 27 wins between 1981 and 1995. He became a work rider and then an assistant to a number of trainers, most notably to two of Hong Kong’s greats, John Moore and John Size. Lor was granted a full licence ahead of the 2017/18 Hong Kong racing season. He won with his first runner, Yourthewonforme, in a Class 5 contest at the season opener on 3 September, 2017. Lor ended that campaign second in the championship behind his old master John Size. His final tally of 65 wins surpassed Hong Kong’s previous best first-season total, set by Size when winning his first Hong Kong Trainers’ Championship in 2001/02. Lor landed his first Group 1 win in only his second season, scooping a double at the 2018 Hong Kong International Races with Mr Stunning (Hong Kong Sprint) and Glorious Forever (Hong Kong Cup). That season also saw him land a first Hong Kong Derby triumph as he swept the 2019 Four-Year-Old Classic Series with Furore and Mission Tycoon. Mr Stunning brought Lor another Group 1 success in the 2020 Chairman’s Sprint Prize. Lor closed out another season of remarkable consistency with a fine 65 wins in 2020/21 and a second Hong Kong Classic Cup success. In 2021/22, he claimed a personal-best 90 wins to be crowned 2021/22 Hong Kong Champion Trainer. He also added three more Group race wins to his tally that term, namely the G2 Jockey Club Cup, G3 Chinese Club Challenge Cup and G3 Bauhinia Sprint Trophy. Lor finished another consistent season with 65 wins throughout the 2022/23 campaign, placing third to the championship-winning John Size. He posted his 500th Hong Kong win in the 2025/26 season, reaching the milestone in only his ninth campaign, and in that season he enjoyed successes with Numbers in the Centenary Vase and Stormy Grove in the Hong Kong Classic Cup.
