After the 250 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between MR COOL and VERMILION TEMPEST. VOLCANIC SPARK was then shifted to the outside of VERMILION TEMPEST where it obtained clear running near the 200 Metres. Sent for sampling post-race.

Average to begin, raced 2 wide in midfield, similar position on turn, made minor progress in straight.

E Brown stated that from his favourable barrier he was asked to hold a midfield position. He said when his mount commenced well it settled slightly more forward than anticipated. Sent for sampling post-race.

Inconvenienced at start, raced 2 wide behind midfield, 4 to 5 lengths back turning in, one-paced in the run home. (See Racing Incidents.)

Near the 350 Metres was steadied when disappointed for a run to the inside of KINGLY DEMEANOR. MR COOL was then shifted to the outside of KINGLY DEMEANOR and FORTUNE KINGO where it obtained clear running after the 300 Metres. Sent for sampling post-race.

Taken back to race 3 wide with cover behind midfield, angled out 500M, made no impression in straight.

Jumped only fairly. From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Bumped start, raced behind midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, no clear run until approaching final 100M, finished off well to be nearest on line.

On jumping was crowded between KYRUS TREASURE and STORM RUNNER which shifted in. In the early stages raced keenly. For some distance near the 1200 Metres was steadied away from AMAZING GAZE. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Moderately away from gate 1, raced better than midfield on the inside, easy run to turn, kept on well in straight to take 2nd, not quite able to challenge.

Jumped only fairly and then shortly after the start was steadied to avoid YIU CHEUNG VICTORY which shifted in. Held up for clear running on the Home Turn. Between the 200 Metres and the 100 Metres was unable to be ridden out when positioned behind KOLACHI. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Crowded start, raced 3 wide slightly better than midfield, peaked on run 500M, weakened early in straight when hard run took toll.

Jumped awkwardly and lost ground, raced in midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, kept on same pace in straight. (Sustained an abrasion to its left front leg.)

Bumped at the start. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. L Ferraris was reprimanded in relation to using his whip forward of the saddle in a forehand manner on one occasion near the 200 Metres.

Apprentice H Y Yuen stated that after shifting in on jumping and making contact with KOLACHI she was obliged to make use of the horse in the early stages to go forward. She said STORM RUNNER raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event and as a result gave ground in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Made contact at start, raced in 2nd, 2 wide, there to turn, kept on well early in straight, peaked 150M, stayed on evenly to take a place.

A Badel could offer no explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of YIU CHEUNG VICTORY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, YIU CHEUNG VICTORY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
