After passing the 300 Metres was checked when disappointed for clear running between ALL ROUND WINNER and FREE PONY (M L Yeung) which shifted out under pressure. In assessing the incident the Stewards were not satisfied that FLYING KNIGHT had established clear running between both horses before FREE PONY shifted out which was supported by the evidence tendered by D B McMonagle during the inquiry. Nevertheless M L Yeung was advised to exercise more care to prevent his mounts from shifting ground when they are under pressure.

Jumped well from the widest draw, raced prominently, 2 wide, 1/2L back turning in, took the lead approaching 250M, peaked and headed 200M, weakened final 100M.

After being slow to begin was then crowded for room between ALL ROUND WINNER and STAR FIGURE which was taken in by BULL ATTITUDE after being bumped on the hindquarters by BLOSSOMY.

Taken back from a wide draw, raced at rear on the outside, very wide into straight, passed some tired runners in the run home. (See Racing Incidents.)

Began well, raced 3 wide with cover in midfield, 3 lengths back turning in, showed very good response in straight, took the lead 200M, ran on very well to the line.

On jumping bumped with BULL ATTITUDE. Approaching the 500 Metres shifted out and bumped BULL ATTITUDE which was taken out onto AUTOMATED. From the 500 Metres was unable to improve its position when held up for clear running in the early part of the Home Straight and continued to have difficulty gaining clear running thereafter until near the 100 Metres.

Slightly slow out, taken back to race behind midfield on the inside, angled out after passing 600M, 4 lengths back turning in, no clear run early in straight, inconvenienced near 250M, made no progress thereafter.

Jumped awkwardly. Passing the 200 Metres was steadied and shifted in when held up for clear running until after passing the 100 Metres.

Moderately away from gate 1, sat right behind the leader on the inside, saved ground on turn, unable to obtain clear run in straight.

M F Poon reported that his instructions were to take up a forward position, however, his mount raced quite greenly. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

L Hewitson could not offer any excuse for his mount’s disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, STRATHPEFFER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
