Moderately away from gate 1, raced better than midfield on the inside, 1-1/2L back turning in, showed good response in straight, took the lead 150M, kept on well to the line and scored.

Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up for clear running between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres. C L Chau was issued with a final warning for using his whip in a manner which was raised above shoulder height on a number of occasions over the concluding stages.

Bumped shortly after start, taken back to race at rear, 6-1/2L back turning in, made no impression in straight.

Jumped only fairly. When the pace steadied in the middle stages commenced to race keenly and was steadied to avoid FIGHTING MACHINE which gave ground at the same point. From the 600 Metres commenced a forward move around the field and near the 500 Metres made contact with CHARITY TOGETHER when that runner shifted out to improve. Sent for sampling post-race.

Began well, raced in 2nd, 1/2L back, challenged the leader turning in, took the lead 400M, kept on well but unable to hold off the winner final 150M, finished 2nd.

Shifted out at the start and was bumped. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. After the event J Orman stated that the preference was for him to obtain a position midfield with cover, however, he was given the option to go forward if circumstances permitted. He said in the early stages WINNING GOLD did not travel strongly and was not travelling well enough to cross runners to his inside which resulted in WINNING GOLD racing wide and without cover for the majority of the event. He added in the Home Straight WINNING GOLD responded fairly to his riding, however, he was not too disappointed with the performance having regard to the wide run that the horse endured during the race. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Began only fairly, positioned 3 lengths behind the leader on the inside, saved ground on turn, kept on well in straight to make frame without threatening. (See Racing Incidents.) (Lame left front leg.)

In the middle stages raced keenly and when the pace steadied near the 800 Metres was steadied to avoid YOUNG BRILLIANT. Between the 450 Metres and the 300 Metres was held up for clear running.

Shifted in at start and bumped, sent forward to take the lead, challenged by rival 500M, headed early in straight, weakened final 300M.

From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Shifted out near the 500 Metres and made contact with FLYING LUCK.

Average to begin, raced 2 wide better than midfield, there to turn, showed limited response early in straight, weakened gradually inside final furlong.

On jumping was bumped by WINNING GOLD which shifted out. After the event M L Yeung stated that the intention was to hold a handy position with cover. He said when caught wide in the early stages he allowed NEVER PETER OUT to stride forward and lead to avoid covering additional ground.

Jumped only fairly. From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 550 Metres was steadied to avoid PRESTIGE RICKY and was shifted to that runner’s outside. Approaching the 300 Metres was steadied when momentarily crowded by CHARITY TOGETHER (M Chadwick) which shifted in. M Chadwick was advised to exercise more care. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Made contact at start, raced towards rear on outer, 6 lengths back turning in, passed some tired runners in straight.

Raced very wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. <2/6/2025 Additional Veterinary Reports> ORIENTAL SMOKE, which performed disappointingly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. ORIENTAL SMOKE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D A Hayes yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, ORIENTAL SMOKE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Taken back from the widest draw, raced behind midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, made minor progress early in straight, peaked 250M, weakened gradually final furlong.

Jumped only fairly and then was steadied when crowded between GENTLEMEN LEGACY and MAGNIFICENT NINE which shifted out after being bumped by YOUNG BRILLIANT. The performance of LEGENDARY YEARS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LEGENDARY YEARS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
