Began well from gate 1, positioned 1-1/4L behind the leader on rail, easy run to turn, showed good response in straight, took the lead 150M, kept on well but unable to hold off the winner close home.

When questioned A Atzeni stated that he had been instructed to lead the event and in the Home Straight to shift away from the running rail as connections had felt this would be an advantageous position on the track. He said in accordance with those instructions, upon entering the Home Straight he shifted his mount out approximately four horses away from the running rail. Trainer P C Ng confirmed the instructions and the reasons as to why those instructions were issued.

Began only fairly, raced behind midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, angled out 450M, not enough room early in straight, cleared 200M, one-paced thereafter.

Leaving the 50 Metres was eased when racing in restricted room between DARYL FLASH and CALIFORNIA WAVES, both of which shifted ground slightly.

Taken back from a wide draw, raced at rear on the outside, still well back on turn, made very good progress in straight to be nearest on line.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Apprentice H Y Yuen stated that the intention was to hold a more forward position but THE RED HARE settled further back than intended when it jumped only fairly. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Away well, raced 2 wide in midfield, there to turn, kept on same pace in straight.

Jumped awkwardly. A Badel was fined the sum of $5,000 in relation to using his whip in a manner where the hand holding the whip was above shoulder height on one occasion near the 250 Metres.

Taken back to race 3 wide towards rear, 6 lengths or so back, same margin back on turn, made no impression in straight.

Bumped on jumping. H Bentley confirmed that he was instructed to hold an on-pace position and as a result in the early stages he rode his mount forward to comply with those instructions. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
