Began well, positioned 3 lengths behind the leader on the stands' rail, hard ridden approaching 300M but only showed limited response, weakened final furlong. (Lost right front plate.)

Moderately away from gate 1, raced at rear, 4 lengths back in the middle stages, commenced move approaching 400M, showed very good response, took the lead near 75M, kept on well to the line.

When questioned regarding his riding from the 600 Metres and if there was an opportunity to follow FIGHT TIME into the event, H Bowman stated that his mount travelled well in a handy position behind and to the inside of FIGHT TIME. He said leaving the 600 Metres he contemplated shifting out to follow FIGHT TIME into the race, however, when he became concerned that FIGHT TIME was under pressure, he elected not to do so as he also would have been required to come back slightly to provide himself with comfortable racing room to follow FIGHT TIME. He added after committing to the inside of FIGHT TIME near the 550 Metres, that runner then unexpectedly improved to the outside of PEARL OF PANG’S which then resulted in MAX QUE having to be checked near the 350 Metres when disappointed for clear running between FIGHT TIME and PEARL OF PANG’S. After considering his explanation the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Bowman were reasonable in the circumstances. Sent for sampling post-race.

After the event H T Mo reported that after obtaining the lead in the early stages his mount raced too keenly which resulted in it running inside of standard time despite his efforts to restrain the horse and to set a more sustainable pace.

Average to begin, raced in midfield, hard ridden after passing 350M and made minor progress, peaked 150M, ran on evenly to the line.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 300 Metres was held up for clear running when endeavouring to obtain a narrow run between BLUE BARON and MIGHTY STEED. In this incident SPIRIT OF PEACE made contact with MIGHTY STEED. Over the final 100 Metres lay in, resulting in its rider B Avdulla having to correct his mount on a number of occasions.

Jumped awkwardly. Between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres was held up for clear running when endeavouring to improve into a narrow run between BLUE BARON which lay in and MAX QUE which shifted out.

Away well, sent forward to take the lead, led by 3/4L, kept on well final 400M but unable to hold off the winner final 75M, finished 2nd.

Jumped only fairly. From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the event C L Chau reported that his mount settled back in the field and with the early and middle stages of the event being run inside of standard time LUCKY COMBINATION did not travel well and in the Home Straight failed to run on when placed under pressure. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of LUCKY COMBINATION, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY COMBINATION will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the event Apprentice E C W Wong stated that after being slow to begin his mount did not travel well throughout the event. He added on the Home Turn his mount became unbalanced and when he was concerned there was something amiss he eased it down from the event near the 300 Metres. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of QUICK QUICK WIN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, QUICK QUICK WIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
