Began only fairly from gate 1, positioned 4 lengths behind the leader on rail, saved ground throughout, made some progress early in straight, no extra final 150M.

When questioned, L Hewitson stated that his instructions were to ensure that he found cover on his mount as FLYING HIGH only has a short sprint when placed under pressure. He said after initially obtaining cover behind PHOENIX LIGHT, he was reluctant to remain behind that runner as he felt PHOENIX LIGHT is not a horse that would provide him with an opportunity to improve into the event. He added as a result he continued to shift out towards the stand rail to follow CARROLL STREET as he felt that runner would provide him with a better opportunity to improve into the event. He said when CARROLL STREET did not quicken as he had anticipated and shifted in slightly near the 400 Metres, he then improved to that runner’s outside whereby he was able to place FLYING HIGH under pressure approaching the 300 Metres at which point it commenced to finish the race off well.

Jumped awkwardly and lost ground, raced towards rear, 6 lengths or so back, similar position on turn, finished off very strongly to score.

Began well, raced better than midfield on the outside early, raced in 2nd from 1100M, 2 lengths back turning in, peaked early in straight, weakened inside final furlong.

Bumped shortly after the start. After the event, K Teetan stated that CARROLL STREET did not appreciate racing with a top weight of 135 lbs and as a result found it difficult to finish the race off strongly. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

On jumping was checked when crowded between CARROLL STREET and ORIENTAL SMOKE which was taken in by STELLAR EXPRESS. Passing the 150 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between HASTEN DELIGHT and MIGHTY COMMANDER (M L Yeung) which shifted out under riding. M L Yeung was advised to exercise more care. As a result, SAVVY BRILLIANT could not be fully ridden out between the 150 Metres and the 50 Metres.

As the start was effected lowered its head and as a consequence was slow to begin. After the event, Apprentice P N Wong confirmed that with her mount losing ground at the start, it was unable to make up any significant ground in the Home Straight which she attributed to the poor start. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Moderately away, raced 2 wide behind midfield, commenced move 500M, showed very good response in straight, hit the front 200M, kept on well but unable to hold off the winner final 50M, finished 2nd.
