After travelling a short distance raced in restricted room between MR ENERGIA and MILES AWAY which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Making the turn after the 900 Metres shifted out when racing tight between YUEN LONG ELITE and MR ENERGIA and as a result was steadied away from MR ENERGIA.

Moderately away, raced towards rear on the inside, saved ground on turn, failed to close off in straight.

Near the 900 Metres was steadied to avoid ARIEL (Apprentice E C W Wong) which shifted in. Apprentice Wong was advised to exercise more care. Briefly held up approaching the 300 Metres.

Began well from gate 9, raced 2 wide slightly better than midfield, 3 wide from 500M, finished off well to take 2nd, no threat to the winner.

Crowded near the 900 Metres.

Made contact with the left side of its barrier on jumping, raced better than midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, kept on well early in straight, peaked on run 200M, weakened gradually final 150M.

Shortly after the start was crowded between SUNDAY’S SERENADE and SOLID WIN, both of which shifted ground.

Jumped with them, raced 2 wide in midfield, 4 lengths back, angled out 600M, wide into straight, peaked early in straight, weakened thereafter. (See Racing Incidents.)

Had some difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300 Metres and the 250 Metres. When questioned, H Bowman stated that his mount was fractious in the barriers just prior to the start being effected when being assisted by a starting gate handler. He said as a consequence YUEN LONG ELITE jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start. He added that after obtaining a midfield position behind FLYING LUCK, YUEN LONG ELITE finished the race off satisfactorily. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, YUEN LONG ELITE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Sent for sampling post-race.

After the event, M Chadwick stated that from an inside barrier he was instructed to hold a position with cover behind the leaders. He said when no other runner in the race showed the intent to lead, this resulted in EVER SMART improving in the early stages to race in the lead.

Out with rest, raced behind midfield on the outside, very wide turning in, passed some tired runners in straight.

After the event, M F Poon stated that from a wide barrier he was instructed to ride his mount with cover in the early stages. He said as a result SATIRICAL GLORY settled behind midfield in order to comply with his instructions. Trainer C W Chang confirmed the instructions and said he issued such instructions as SATIRICAL GLORY had not finished its race off when holding a more forward position at its previous race start.

Clean jump, sent forward to take the lead, travelled comfortably in the middle stages, kept on very well in straight and scored.

Jumped only fairly, raced behind midfield on the inside, angled out 600M, 3 lengths back turning in, made no impression in straight. (Lame right front leg next day morning.)

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Began only fairly, positioned 2 wide, 5 lengths or so back, commenced move after passing 750M, very wide into straight, kept on well in straight to take a place without threatening the first two.
