Shifted out at start and bumped, raced 3 wide at rear, angled out after passing 550M, very wide into straight, peaked early in straight, weakened final 150M. (See Racing Incidents.)

Shortly after the start was bumped by OFFROAD MASTER which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Sent for sampling post-race.

Moderately away from gate 12, raced in 2nd, 2 wide, same position on turn, peaked early in straight, ran on evenly to the line. (See Racing Incidents.)

Shortly after the start was bumped. Bumped near the 400 Metres. When questioned, Z Purton stated that when he placed his mount under pressure in the Home Straight it responded well to his riding, but near the 170 Metres identified a mark on the track which resulted in it shifting in and crowding OFFROAD MASTER. Sent for sampling post-race.

Jumped only fairly, raced behind midfield on the inside, angled out 600M, 3 lengths back turning in, made no impression in straight. (Lame right front leg next day morning.)

Jumped awkwardly.

Began only fairly, positioned 2 wide, 5 lengths or so back, commenced move after passing 750M, very wide into straight, kept on well in straight to take a place without threatening the first two.

Shifted in shortly after the start, was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. Near the 400 Metres shifted out and made contact with PACKING ANGEL when obtaining a run to the outside of COLONEL. Near the 170 Metres was steadied when crowded by PACKING ANGEL (Z Purton) which shifted in when it identified a mark on the track. Z Purton was advised to exercise more care.

Clean jump, sent forward to take the lead, travelled comfortably in the middle stages, kept on very well in straight and scored.

K C Leung was fined $2,000 for initially presenting himself to be weighed out with the incorrect saddle cloth number. Slow to begin. Was bumped approaching the 450 Metres when being shifted out.

Slowly away, raced 2 wide at rear, 4 lengths or so back turning in, passed some tired runners in straight.

Moderately away, raced towards rear on the inside, saved ground on turn, failed to close off in straight.

On jumping blundered badly and became unbalanced. Was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages from the outside barrier. Approaching the 450 Metres was held up for clear running for a short distance behind BEAUTY MISSILE. Near the 50 Metres bumped with BEAUTY MISSILE when that runner shifted in slightly.

Crowded on jumping, raced 3 wide better than midfield, no cover throughout, peaked 450M, weakened early in straight.

Shifted out on jumping and was bumped. After the event, A Atzeni stated that after racing in the lead SPICY SPANGLE did not respond to his riding over the final 200 Metres and raced in a disappointing manner. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Began well from gate 9, raced 2 wide slightly better than midfield, 3 wide from 500M, finished off well to take 2nd, no threat to the winner.

Made contact with the right side of its barrier on jumping. Approaching the 450 Metres was bumped by WINNING LION which shifted out. Near the 50 Metres shifted in and was bumped. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Made contact with the left side of its barrier on jumping, raced better than midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, kept on well early in straight, peaked on run 200M, weakened gradually final 150M.

Out with rest, raced behind midfield on the outside, very wide turning in, passed some tired runners in straight.

After the event, L Ferraris stated that when placed under pressure in the Home Straight his mount lay in. He added that, in his opinion, COLONEL is better suited at Happy Valley and when being able to dictate the lead. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of COLONEL, a last start winner, was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts. Before being allowed to race again, COLONEL will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
