Broke away swiftly and sat outside the leader, fought hard when being challenged to hold on to the victory.

One of quickest away from the stalls, raced keenly in the early stages, held up for a short distance early part of the straight, knuckled down to the task once clear.

Approaching the 800 Metres, when racing keenly, was steadied to avoid MEANINGFUL DRAGON (J Orman) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. J Orman was advised to exercise more care. GHORGAN then raced keenly throughout the middle stages. Briefly held up near the 400 Metres.

Away only fairly, from pole position settled in the box-seat trail, closed off just fairly when shaken up.

Between the 450 Metres and the 400 Metres was held up for clear running. On a number of occasions between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres made contact with CORNERSTONE when racing tight to the inside of that runner.

Taken back from a wide draw, was severely checked in the middle stages, made some steady ground final stages.

Away ok and sat slightly worse than midfield 3 wide with cover, stayed at the same pace to the line when asked.

Moved across to the fence shortly after the start from a wide barrier, raced tight in the home straight and unable to be fully ridden out until the last 100M.

Jumped awkwardly. From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 900 Metres was steadied to avoid the fallen SMILING FALCON. Leaving the 300 Metres was shifted to the inside of SYNERGY EXPRESS to obtain clear running. As CORNERSTONE was shifted in, ROMANTIC LAOS then improved to the inside of CORNERSTONE, resulting in CORNERSTONE then racing tight between SYNERGY EXPRESS and ROMANTIC LAOS between the 300 Metres and the 150 Metres.

Jumped awkwardly and ridden quietly from the tail of the field, overraced early stages, severely checked to avoid an accident around the 900M, showed limited response when asked.

On jumping got its head up, became unbalanced and lost ground. Approaching the 900 Metres was severely checked to avoid SMILING FALCON when that runner fell. M F Poon stated that after this incident PERIDOT was unable to improve until near the 450 Metres when racing behind CORNERSTONE and to the inside of SUNDAY’S SERENADE. Near the 200 Metres was eased to avoid SUNDAY’S SERENADE when both runners shifted ground slightly. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Out with the rest and covered ground throughout in midfield, faded in the final stages.

Dropped back to the rear with the speed underneath, severely checked near the 900M and soon got slightly detached from the field, swung home the widest, made no impression in the straight.

From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 900 Metres was severely checked to avoid the fallen SMILING FALCON.

Near the 900M suffered an injury and fell. (See Incident Report).

Jumped only fairly. Approaching the 900 Metres SMILING FALCON sustained an injury to the left front leg and fell, dislodging H Bentley. SMILING FALCON was immediately treated by Veterinarians. After it was determined that the injury was too severe to be saved, SMILING FALCON was euthanised. Jockey Bentley was transported to hospital for treatment. Samples were taken from the horse.
