Bumped at the start. For a short distance approaching the 400 Metres was held up behind CHINA WIN. Leaving the 400 Metres FAMILY JEWEL made contact with THE GOLDEN KNIGHT. Sent for sampling post-race.

Began well, raced in 2nd, 2 wide, there to turn, kept on well early in straight, peaked 200M, weakened gradually final 100M.

Jumped awkwardly, raced at tail, still last turning in, taken wide in straight and finished off well to be nearest on line.

Shifted in at the start and was bumped. Shifted out after the 400 Metres and bumped THE GOLDEN KNIGHT.

Shifted out at the start and was bumped. M F Poon reported that the instructions were to settle in a midfield position. He said in the early stages he was caught racing wide and without cover and as a result he elected to allow his mount to stride forward and race outside the lead to avoid covering additional ground.

Average to begin, raced 2 wide in midfield, 3 lengths or so back, 3 wide turning in, peaked early in straight, weakened gradually inside final furlong.

Shifted out near the 450 Metres and made contact with THE BOOM BOX.

Began only fairly, raced slightly better than midfield on the inside, 2 wide turning in, no clear run early in straight, cleared 150M but made no progress thereafter.

Near the 700 Metres was steadied to avoid THE BOOM BOX when racing keenly. When questioned Z Purton stated that he was not given any specific instructions where to settle. He said from the outside barrier he had intended to obtain cover but was obliged to settle behind midfield in order to obtain cover. He added in the Home Straight LOVERO responded only fairly to his riding although he was satisfied with its performance.

Jumped awkwardly, raced in midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, showed very good response in straight, took the lead approaching 150M, kept on very well to the line, easily scored. (Lost left hind plate.)

Bumped at the start. Near the 450 Metres became unbalanced when bumped by EMBRACES (C L Chau) which shifted to the outside of ENDUED to improve. C L Chau was advised to exercise more care.

Jumped well from a wide draw, taken back to race 2 wide behind midfield, 4-1/2L back turning in, failed to close off in straight. (See Racing Incidents.)

On jumping was crowded between RISING PHOENIX and FAMILY JEWEL, both of which shifted ground. Near the 200 Metres was steadied when racing tight to the inside of RISING PHOENIX (M F Poon) which shifted in and away from THE BOOM BOX. M F Poon was advised to exercise more care. L Ferraris confirmed that he was instructed to take up a forward position and lead if possible.

Began only fairly and made contact, raced in 3rd, saved ground throughout, kept on well early in straight, peaked 100M, ran on evenly to the line.

Jumped only fairly. Leaving the 400 Metres was shifted to the inside of ANOTHER WORLD to continue into clear running.

Slightly slow out and crowded, raced towards rear on the inside, angled out after passing 700M, 5 lengths back turning in, made no impression in straight.

Jumped only fairly. From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Taken back from gate 14, raced behind midfield on the outside, moved closer after passing 900M, 2 to 3 lengths back turning in, peaked early in straight, weakened thereafter.

Near the 450 Metres was steadied to avoid EMBRACES which shifted out. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A Badel was fined the sum of $5,000 in relation to using his whip in a manner where the hand holding the whip was above shoulder height on one occasion near the 250 Metres.

Fast into stride, sent forward to take the lead, travelled well to turn, peaked and headed approaching 150M, weakened final 100M.

H T Mo reported that from a wide barrier he was instructed to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages. Trainer P F Yiu confirmed the instructions issued.

Began only fairly, raced 2 wide behind midfield, moved a bit closer after passing 900M, 4 wide turning in, made good progress in straight to take 2nd, no threat to the winner.

C Y Ho reported that his mount did not run out the 1600 Metres of today’s race. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
