Jumped with them, raced better than midfield on the outside, 2nd after entering the back straight, 1/2L back turning in, hit the front 200M, kept on well but unable to hold off the winner final 100M.

Taken back from a wide draw, raced at rear on the outside, moved a bit closer after passing 1300M, made contact near 900M, 4 lengths or so back on turn, very wide turning in, weakened early in straight. (See Racing Incidents.)

H Bentley reported that his mount hung out making the Home Turn and as a consequence proved difficult to ride in the Home Straight. Sent for sampling post-race.

Bumped start, raced 2 wide behind midfield, 3 wide after entering the back straight, made contact 900M, hard ridden approaching 550M, very wide into straight, finished off very strongly to score.

Jumped only fairly and then was crowded between SHAMZ and LOCH TAY which shifted in. Held up for clear running between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres. Noted to have sustained an abrasion to its left front leg.

Bumped start, raced 2 wide, 4 lengths or so back, 3 wide on turn, finished off evenly. (Jockey dropped his left rein passing 100M.)

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Over the concluding stages made contact with POPE CODY due to both runners shifting ground.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Out with rest, taken back to race towards rear on the outside, 5-1/4L back turning in, made very good progress in straight to take a place, no threat to the first two.

When questioned L Hewitson stated that the instructions from the outside barrier were to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages. He said those instructions were issued as connections felt the horse had lacked concentration after improving to the front in the early stages of the Home Straight at its previous race starts. He said as a consequence from the outside barrier he settled back in the field. When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight and the reasons he remained racing on the rail where he had shifted away from the rail in the earlier races, L Hewitson stated that part of the instructions were to save ground making the Home Turn and to shift to the outside in the Home Straight. He added after improving to the inside of SHAMZ near the 400 Metres he then was unable to shift out when he had LOCH TAY positioned to his outside and as a result he elected to continue forward to the inside of LUCKY CANDY. He said when KING LOTUS did not improve sufficiently to clear LUCKY CANDY, he was obliged to remain racing on the rail for the remainder of the event. Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions and the reasons why those instructions were issued. He added whilst his preference was for KING LOTUS to make a run in the Home Straight away from the rail he was advised by Jockey Hewitson there was no option to comply with that part of the instructions. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Blundered on jumping, raced in 2nd, 2 wide, allowed rival to cross near 1100M, 1 out 1 back on turn, kept on well early in straight, peaked 200M, ran on evenly to the line.

Slightly slow out from the widest draw, raced at rear on the inside, saved ground on turn, kept to inside after straightening and made some progress until not enough room final 100M.

Shifted in at the start, was bumped and became unbalanced. Hung in in the Home Straight. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Fast into stride, showed good speed to take the lead, led by 1/2L turning in, peaked and headed 200M, weakened approaching final 100M.
