Taken back from gate 9, raced at tail, 5 lengths or so back, same margin back turning in, made good progress in straight to take a place, no threat to the first two.

In the middle stages raced keenly and near the 800 Metres shifted out when being steadied away from WINNING WING. Near the 250 Metres lay in and bumped with PACKING HURRICANE. Approaching the winning post was bumped by EMBRACES when that runner was taken in slightly by JUMBO LEGEND. Z Purton pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 200 Metres (see PACKING HURRICANE). Sent for sampling post-race.

Jumped only fairly, raced better than midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, no clear run early in straight, cleared 200M, finished off well, led close home.

Away well, raced prominently, 2 wide, allowed rival to cross near 600M, 2 lengths back turning in, angled out 350M, peaked early in straight, kept on same pace to the line.

Approaching the 200 Metres improved into a narrow run between NOISY BOY and PACKING HURRICANE. A short distance later became unbalanced when bumped by PACKING HURRICANE which shifted in when being checked.

Bumped shortly after start, sent forward to race prominently, took the lead near 800M, led by 3/4L turning in, kept on well in straight but unable to hold off the winner close home. (Lame right front leg next day morning.)

Taken back from the widest draw, raced at rear on the outside, very wide into straight, made no impression in straight.

After the event K C Leung reported that his mount was pressured in the lead and as a result was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Moderately away from a wide draw, raced in midfield on outer, no cover throughout, made minor progress in straight.

Near the 250 Metres was bumped by CAMBRIDGE which lay in. Z Purton (CAMBRIDGE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of PACKING HURRICANE, resulting in PACKING HURRICANE having to be checked to avoid CAMBRIDGE. In accordance with previous practices, Z Purton was fined the sum of $120,000 in lieu of a two-day suspension. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his good race riding record. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Jumped well from a wide draw, took the early lead, headed near 800M, 2nd on turn, 3/4L turning in, peaked early in straight, ran on evenly to the line. (See Racing Incidents.)

After the event L Ferraris stated that from a wide barrier he took up a forward position as instructed. He said the horse, under its top weight of 134 lbs, found it difficult to run on in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
