Lay in over the final 200 Metres. After the event L Hewitson reported that from a wide barrier he was instructed to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages. He said the instructions were issued to him on the basis that FORTUNE STAR had led at its most recent start and had performed in a disappointing manner. Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued.
Away with them, raced 2 wide better than midfield, travelled well to turn, showed good response in straight, took the lead 150M, kept on strongly to the line and scored.

The performance of QUICK QUICK WIN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. As this was the second consecutive occasion that QUICK QUICK WIN had finished tailed out, the horse will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Acting on this advice SWAGGER BRO was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. The Stewards ruled that SWAGGER BRO will be required to attend barrier practice to the satisfaction of the Starter prior to performing satisfactorily in a barrier trial and being subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
