Shifted out at the start and was bumped. Approaching the 400 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between WIN SPEED and KINGLY DEMEANOR. DRACO was then held up for clear running between the 400 Metres and the 250 Metres when being shifted to the outside of KINGLY DEMEANOR. The Veterinary Officer reported that DRACO was lame in its right front leg after racing. Before being allowed to race again, DRACO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Taken back from a wide draw, raced at tail, 10 lengths or so back, still well back on turn, made good progress in straight to be nearest on line. (See Racing Incidents.)

After the event, M Chadwick stated that he was obliged to make some use of his mount in the early stages from a wide barrier to take up a position outside the lead. He said as a result WIN SPEED was unable to finish the race off in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 800 Metres improved to the inside of LUCKY STATEMENT and then was steadied when momentarily crowded.

Bumped start, raced 2 wide at rear, there to turn, showed limited response early in straight, weakened inside final furlong.

Bumped on jumping. When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, K De Melo stated that his mount responded only fairly when placed under pressure and for this reason he did not ride THE AUSPICIOUS with full vigour for some distance approaching the 200 Metres. He said over the concluding stages THE AUSPICIOUS was held up for clear running between WIN SPEED and HARMONY N HOME and as a result he was unable to fully test his mount to the finish of the event. The Stewards advised Jockey De Melo that, wherever possible, he must ride his mounts with full vigour to ensure they obtain the best possible placing in the field.

Jumped with them, positioned 3 wide in midfield, no cover from 800M, carried wider 550M, made some progress early in straight, peaked on run 150M, weakened gradually close home.

Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. After the event, K C Leung reported that his mount, which was racing first up today, would derive benefit from today’s performance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Jumped well from gate 12, sent forward to race prominently on the inside, allowed rival to cross near 800M, sat right behind the leader on turn, no clear run in straight, eased final 100M.

Made contact with the right side of its barrier on jumping and as a result commenced only fairly. Near the 800 Metres was steadied when crowded by SPIRIT OF PEACE (B Avdulla) which shifted in when not quite clear. B Avdulla was advised to exercise more care. After the event, A Atzeni stated that when he was concerned there may be something amiss with his mount he eased it down from the event on the Home Turn. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of LUCKY STATEMENT, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY STATEMENT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
