Approaching the 150 Metres was steadied when racing tight between ALLGREEKTOME and PRAWNS ELEVEN when both runners shifted ground. In this incident, YOUNG ARROW was accidentally struck across the head by the whip of L Ferraris, rider of ALLGREEKTOME.

Made contact at start, raced towards rear on the outside, 5 lengths back, very wide into straight, finished off well to make frame without threatening.

Jumped only fairly. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that the intention was to hold a more forward position but after commencing only fairly FLYING FORTRESS was obliged to settle back in the field. He said entering the Home Straight, when racing greenly, FLYING FORTRESS was eased away from NORDIC DRAGON when that runner shifted out and continued to race greenly for some distance thereafter. He added in the Home Straight FLYING FORTRESS lay in and as a result he pulled his whip to the right hand near the 100 Metres but over the concluding stages could not ride his mount with full vigour when it was positioned close to NORDIC DRAGON.

Away with them, raced in 3rd, 2 wide, same position on turn, hit the front 200M, kept on strongly to the line, won by 2 lengths.

Over the final 100 Metres was held up for clear running behind PRAWNS ELEVEN and as a result could not be ridden out to the finish of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
