Moderately away, positioned 2 lengths behind the leader on the rail, a bit closer on turn, unable to obtain clear run until near 150M, finished off well to take a place, not quite able to challenge.

Near the 300 Metres was disappointed for clear running between RECOMMENDATION and FLYING ACE and was shifted to the inside of FLYING ACE to obtain clear running. For some distance approaching the 150 Metres HELIOS EXPRESS had further difficulty obtaining clear running when being shifted to the outside of SATONO REVE as that runner shifted out slightly under pressure. Sent for sampling post-race.

Began only fairly, raced slightly behind midfield on the inside, saved ground throughout, peaked early in straight, weakened final furlong. (Lame right front leg next day morning.)

When questioned, A Badel stated that his instructions from the outside barrier were to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages. He said when the early and middle stages of the race were not run as quickly as he had expected, BEAUTY WAVES raced keenly in the middle stages. When questioned as to why he elected to shift out on entering the Home Straight rather than following SATONO REVE, Jockey Badel stated that as he was concerned that the leaders would continue to improve due to the slower than expected pace of the early and middle stages, he elected to immediately shift to the outside of HELIOS EXPRESS when he saw that runner having difficulty obtaining clear running. He said after shifting to the outside of HELIOS EXPRESS and LUCKY WITH YOU, BEAUTY WAVES became held up for clear running behind those runners and as a result near the 200 Metres he shifted his mount back to the inside where he secured clear running to the inside of HELIOS EXPRESS and his mount ran on well. The Stewards advised Jockey Badel that, in their opinion, his better option would have been to improve to the inside of HELIOS EXPRESS in the early part of the Home Straight to follow SATONO REVE, but were satisfied that his actions in shifting out were not unreasonable in the circumstances having regard to the explanation provided.

M F Poon was fined the sum of $5,000 for raising his whip arm above shoulder height on a number of occasions over the concluding stages. In assessing penalty, the Stewards considered that Jockey Poon had been issued with a number of warnings in relation to this breach.

Shifted out at start, raced in 2nd, 2 wide, same position on turn, hard ridden from 300M, took the lead 150M, kept on well to the line and scored.

Between the 400 Metres and the 200 Metres was held up for clear running.

Made contact with the left side of its barrier on jumping and became unbalanced, raced 2 wide, 5 lengths or so back, same margin back on turn, showed limited response early in straight, weakened inside final furlong.

Bumped at the start. From the 400 Metres until the 250 Metres was held up for clear running behind LUGAL.

Out with rest, raced 3 wide with cover in midfield, 2 wide from 700M, 3 lengths back turning in, angled out and made contact early in straight, finished off very strongly to take 2nd, just beaten by a neck.

On jumping was checked when crowded between STARLUST and RECOMMENDATION which shifted out abruptly after jumping awkwardly. Approaching the 150 Metres was taken in slightly by INVINCIBLE SAGE which shifted in. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Taken back from gate 13, raced at tail, 6 to 7 lengths back on turn, failed to close off in straight.

Jumped awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and was bumped. In the early stages raced keenly and near the 900 Metres got its head up when being checked away from KA YING RISING.

Began well, sent forward to take the lead, travelled comfortably in the middle stages, kept on well early in straight, peaked and headed 150M, weakened gradually final 100M.
