When questioned, M Chadwick stated that his instructions were to ride his mount in a more conservative manner than its last start as TOP GUN had disappointed when it held a forward position on that occasion. He said in the early stages in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount in a conservative manner but when TELECOM FIGHTERS did not show the expected pace in the early stages, he was obliged to shift in behind that runner to avoid racing wide which resulted in TOP GUN settling slightly further back than what had been anticipated. Trainer F C Lor confirmed the instructions issued.

Average to begin, raced 2 wide slightly behind midfield, angled out 450M, kept on same pace in straight.

Shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between YOUNG CHAMPION which shifted in slightly and TELECOM FIGHTERS which was taken out by PATCH OF THETA.

On jumping was crowded between SUNLIGHT POWER and HEALTHY HAPPY, both of which shifted ground.

Bumped start, tracked leaders, 2 wide, carried wider 500M, kept on well in straight to take 2nd, no threat to the winner.

Near the 250 Metres was eased and shifted to the inside of HELENE FEELING to continue into clear running when HELENE FEELING shifted out.

Fast into stride, sent forward to take the lead, led by 3/4L, challenged by rival turning in, peaked and headed 400M, weakened 300M, eased final furlong. (Blood in trachea.)

After the event, K Teetan reported that his mount raced too keenly in the early and middle stages and as a result did not respond strongly to his riding when placed under pressure in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Bumped start, sent forward to race in 2nd, 2 wide, 3/4L back, challenged the leader from 500M, took the lead early in straight, peaked and headed 250M, weakened final furlong.

Jumped only fairly. Approaching the 250 Metres raced in restricted room between GREEN N WHITE and YOUNG CHAMPION which was taken in slightly by SUNLIGHT POWER.

Moderately away from gate 1, raced in midfield on the inside, angled out after passing 500M, showed good response in straight, took the lead 250M, kept on very well to the line and scored.

Over-raced in the early and middle stages. After the event, Apprentice P N Wong stated that her instructions were to go forward. She said TELECOM FIGHTERS jumped only fairly and was then slightly crowded shortly after the start. She said despite riding it along thereafter TELECOM FIGHTERS did not show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position.

Taken back from gate 10, raced 2 wide towards rear, angled out 550M, made contact near 500M, no clear run early in straight, showed limited response thereafter, eased final 100M. (See Racing Incidents.)

Bumped at the start. After the event, A Badel stated that his mount was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event. He said as a result HEALTHY HAPPY did not run out the 1600 Metres of today’s race. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Away well, positioned 1-1/2L behind the leader on the inside, angled out 500M, no clear run early in straight, cleared 300M, peaked 200M, weakened gradually final 100M.

After the event, Y L Chung confirmed his instructions were to hold a forward position. He said after making some use of his mount to do so it came under pressure in the Home Straight. He added after being momentarily crowded between HEALTHY HAPPY and PATCH OF THETA near the 300 Metres and then between HEALTHY HAPPY and TOP GUN near the 200 Metres when both runners shifted ground, his mount then continued to yield ground thereafter. Noted to have lost its left front plate after the race. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
