Average to begin, sent forward to race prominently, 2 wide, hard ridden from 600M but only showed limited response, weakened early in straight. (See Racing Incidents.)

Out with rest, raced 2 wide slightly better than midfield, angled out approaching 700M, 4 wide turning in, finished off well to take a place.

A Atzeni stated that he was instructed to ride his mount, which was having its first race start for Trainer P F Yiu, in a forward position but not necessarily lead. He said when his mount jumped well he was able to lead the event without having to unnecessarily pressure it to do so. A Atzeni was fined the sum of $5,000 in relation to using his whip in a manner where the hand holding the whip was above shoulder height on one occasion over the concluding stages.

Jumped with them, raced 2 wide in midfield, improved after passing 800M, challenged the leader turning in, kept on well in straight to take 2nd, always held.

Jumped only fairly. From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Taken back from a wide draw, raced towards rear on the outside, very wide turning in, made very good progress in straight to be nearest on line.

Near the 450 Metres became unbalanced when crowded between TIN FOOK and PI LEGEND which shifted in when being checked. A short distance later LADY’S CHOICE raced in restricted room between PI LEGEND which continued to shift in and AURORA PATCH which shifted out slightly.

Moderately away, raced in midfield on the inside, 2 wide approaching 700M, 4 lengths or so back turning in, one-paced in straight.

M Chadwick reported that his mount hung in throughout the event. M Chadwick, the rider of POWER KOEPP, 6th placegetter, was fined the sum of $10,000 for a breach of Rule 100(2) in that he failed to ride the horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

Began well, raced slightly better than midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, showed limited response in straight, kept on same pace to the line.

On jumping was bumped by IGOR STRAVINSKY. Near the 450 Metres was checked when crowded by the riderless ROMANTIC SON which shifted in. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Sent for sampling post-race.

Made contact at start, positioned 1-1/2L behind the leader on the inside, saved ground on turn, peaked early in straight, weakened gradually inside final furlong. (See Racing Incidents.)

Incident Report
On jumping was crowded between PI LEGEND and AURORA PATCH which shifted out. Near the 450 Metres was steadied to avoid PI LEGEND. Apprentice P N Wong stated that after jumping only fairly and being crowded at the start her mount was unable to hold a more forward position despite riding it along in the early stages. She added that making the Home Turn her mount was disadvantaged when positioned behind PI LEGEND which was interfered with by the riderless horse at that point. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Made contact at start, raced 2 wide behind midfield, moved a bit closer after passing 700M, wide into straight, made some headway in the run home.

Y L Chung stated that he was instructed to ride the horse where comfortable. He said in the early stages BEAUTY GLORY was unable to show pace to go forward and as a result was obliged to settle back in the field.

Began smartly from gate 1, sent forward to take the lead, travelled comfortably to turn, kept on well in straight to hold off the challengers.

Prior to declaring weighed-in the Stewards gave consideration as to whether ROMANTIC SON had been denied a fair start. After taking evidence from Trainer D A Hayes, Apprentice H Y Yuen and Starter Mr A Speechley the Stewards established that prior to the start being effected Apprentice Yuen was unseated from the saddle when ROMANTIC SON became fractious in the starting gates which resulted in Apprentice Yuen being dislodged from the horse as the start was effected. As the Stewards were satisfied that Apprentice Yuen was not positioned at the saddle as the start was effected they determined the horse had been denied a fair start and as such was declared a non-runner. Before being allowed to race again, ROMANTIC SON will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

Withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial amount of mucus in trachea on scoping). Before being allowed to race again, BLAZING WIND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
