After being crossed by SUPER PACE near the 1000 Metres raced keenly for some distance thereafter. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Sent for sampling post-race.

Taken back from gate 11, raced 3 wide towards rear, angled out 500M, 6 lengths or so back turning in, made very good progress in straight to take 2nd.

Raced keenly in the middle stages. Between the 450 Metres and the 300 Metres was held up for clear running behind SMART ENGINEER. When SMART ENGINEER shifted out near the 300 Metres, REWARDING TWINKLE shifted to that runner’s inside to obtain clear running.

Moderately away, raced 2 wide slightly better than midfield, angled out 500M, showed limited response early in straight, peaked on run 200M, weakened gradually thereafter.

L Ferraris stated that the instructions were to hold a midfield position. He said the horse jumped only fairly and did not travel well throughout the early stages and as a consequence GOOD PROSPECT settled back in the field. He added in the Home Straight GOOD PROSPECT finished the race off only fairly and it was noted to have its tongue over the bit after the race. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Taken back from gate 12, raced at rear on the inside, angled out approaching 550M, 7 lengths or so back turning in, made no progress in straight.

Began smartly, raced prominently, 2 wide, allowed rival to cross near 900M, 2 lengths or so back on turn, angled out 500M, peaked early in straight, weakened final 200M. (Bled.)

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils. Before being allowed to race again, VON BAER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

R Kingscote stated that he was given the option of taking up a more forward position from a wide barrier as the horse had not been performing well when ridden back in the field. He said when SMART ENGINEER jumped well he elected to go forward on the horse in accordance with his instructions. Trainer K W Lui confirmed the instructions issued.
