Began only fairly, raced in midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, no clear run near 250M, ran on evenly to the line. (See Racing Incidents.)
Incident Report
On jumping made contact with the left side of its starting gate. Approaching the 250 Metres improved to the inside of WINNING NOW (C L Chau) when that runner was commencing to shift in, resulting in GENIUS BABY then being crowded for room near the 250 Metres and racing tight to the inside of WINNING NOW for some distance thereafter. C L Chau was reprimanded. When questioned regarding his riding on the Home Turn and in the early stages of the Home Straight K Teetan stated that after following WINNING NOW into the Home Straight he attempted to improve to that runner’s inside as he felt WINNING NOW would shift out on the Home Turn and WIN METHOD was positioned directly to his outside. He said after shifting to the inside of WINNING NOW that runner then shifted in as he attempted to obtain this run which resulted in GENIUS BABY not being able to obtain clear running for some distance after the 250 Metres. After considering his explanation the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Teetan were reasonable in the circumstances. Sent for sampling post-race.
Jumped with them, made contact shortly after start, raced behind midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, one-paced in the run home.
Incident Report
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Taken back from the widest draw, raced at tail, 6 lengths or so back turning in, passed some tired runners in straight. (See Racing Incidents.)
Incident Report
Between the 200 Metres and the 100 Metres raced tight between WAVE GARDEN and BASIC INSTINCT. A Atzeni reported that from the outside barrier his instructions were to ride the horse conservatively in the early stages and allow it to finish the race off in the Home Straight. Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued. Noted to have blood in the mouth after the race.
Jumped well from a wide draw, sent forward to race in 2nd, 3 wide in the early stages, 2 wide from 800M, a length back turning in, peaked early in straight, weakened final 150M. (See Racing Incidents.)
Incident Report
M Chadwick reported that from a wide barrier he was obliged to make use of his mount in the early stages to race outside the lead. He said as a consequence in the Home Straight his mount was unable to finish the race off strongly. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Began only fairly from gate 1, showed no early speed, raced towards rear on the inside, saved ground on turn, showed limited response early in straight, no clear run 200M to 100M, ran on evenly to the line.
Incident Report
Approaching the 200 Metres was held up for clear running when crowded between ABSOLUTE LUCKY which was racing tight to the inside of WAVE GARDEN and SIR CHARGE which shifted out when giving ground. As a result BASIC INSTINCT was held up for clear running between the 200 Metres and the 100 Metres. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Made contact shortly after start, raced behind midfield on the outside, travelled keenly in the early stages, 6 lengths back on turn, made no impression in straight.
Incident Report
Shifted in shortly after the start and was bumped. In the early stages raced ungenerously and making the first turn got its head up when being crossed by FREE PONY. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Taken back from gate 9, raced 2 wide towards rear, a bit closer on turn, made no progress in straight.
Incident Report
Jumped only fairly.
Made contact shortly after start, raced 2 wide in midfield, similar position on turn, peaked early in straight, weakened inside final furlong. (See Racing Incidents.)
Incident Report
Shortly after the start made contact with DASH which shifted in. H Bowman stated that his mount over-raced throughout the early and middle stages. He said near the 450 Metres his mount made contact with FREE PONY when that runner improved quickly to his outside which resulted in SIR CHARGE being held up behind WIN METHOD. He added that in the Home Straight SIR CHARGE did not respond to his riding and, in his opinion, was still disappointing. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SIR CHARGE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
