Shifted out at the start, made contact with KA YING SUPERB and became unbalanced. Sent for sampling post-race. Z Purton was reprimanded for using the whip on 2 consecutive strides near the 150 Metres.

In the middle stages raced keenly and near the 700 Metres shifted out when being steadied to avoid TOP DRAGON. Making the Home Turn was then taken wider by TOP DRAGON which shifted out to improve. M F Poon stated that from the outside barrier he was instructed to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages. Trainer D J Hall confirmed the instructions and said he issued those instructions as he was of the view there was superior pace drawn to the inside and that the horse had performed disappointingly at the conclusion of last preparation when it was ridden forward to lead from a wide barrier.

Jumped awkwardly, raced better than midfield on the outside early, moved closer 1000M, took the lead 900M, led by 1/2L turning in, kept on very well in straight and scored.

Jumped only fairly and then raced tight to the inside of SIX PACK shortly after the start. Leaving the 700 Metres commenced to race keenly and was steadied away from SIX PACK. Again near the 500 Metres was steadied away from SIX PACK. Between the 350 Metres and the 250 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when improving between KA YING ATTACK and IGOR STRAVINSKY.

Began only fairly and made contact, raced behind midfield on the inside, 3 lengths back turning in, unable to obtain clear run until approaching final 100M, finished off strongly to take 2nd.

Held up making the Home Turn. After being shifted to the inside of DAZZLING FIT, ARMOUR WAR EAGLE was then held up for clear running for a short distance behind KA YING SUPERB near the 350 Metres. After being shifted to the inside of KA YING SUPERB, ARMOUR WAR EAGLE was again held up for clear running behind ONE MAN SHOW near the 200 Metres when that runner was giving ground.

Fast into stride, sent forward to take the lead, headed near 900M, 2nd on turn, weakened early in straight, eased final furlong. (See Racing Incidents.)

Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping and became unbalanced. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils. Before being allowed to race again, KA YING SUPERB will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Taken back from gate 12, raced at rear on the inside, 5 lengths or so back turning in, no clear run until final 100M, made some progress thereafter.
