Began well, raced 2 wide, a length or so back, similar position on turn, kept on evenly in straight.
Average to begin, raced slightly behind midfield on the outside, 3-1/2L back turning in, showed very good response in straight, took the lead 100M, kept on very well to the line.
Taken back from the widest draw, raced at rear on the inside, saved ground on turn, no clear run until final 100M, made no progress thereafter.
Jumped with them, raced behind midfield on outer, there to turn, peaked early in straight, weakened thereafter.

PUCCINI is half-brother of 6-time New Zealand G1 winner SIR SLICK with 8 wins, 8 seconds and 6 thirds in 57 starts, winning distance from 1600M to 2400M. He was trained by Peter McKay in New Zealand during his early stage of racing career where he landed three G2 events, also G1 New Zealand Derby that denied RISING ROMANCE under Michael Walker and he became 2013/14 New Zealand champion 3YO colt. He made his way to Australia but no success in Rosehill Guineas and Australian Derby afterwards. The colt shined again after a break at age 4 with 3 wins including G1 Thorndon Mile. PUCCINI joined Darren Weir stable and Wayne Walters’ yard in Australia but could only record 7 seconds. The son of ENCOSTA DE LAGO stands at Mapperley Stud, New Zealand and there is 1 first black type contest winner while New Zealand Derby 2nd runner up FULL OF SINCERITY as his representative. PUCCINI has been passed away on 29th July, 2024. KING OF SELECTION was formerly known as FINE PROPOSITION and trained by Kevin Myers in New Zealand with 1 win in 2 starts. After 5 barrier trials, he sat handy on his debut in a 1600M race and ran on for 4th at Riccarton, then sat handy early and ran on well to win in a 2000M contest on the following start. Half-sister PREMISE was former Australian Oaks 2nd runner up. The bay gelding should be a middle and longer runner and fine on soft going.
