Jumped well, sent forward to take the lead, led by 3/4L turning in, peaked and headed 350M, weakened thereafter. (See Racing Incidents.)

Jumped with them, raced 2 wide in midfield, wider on turn, hard ridden 550M, made some progress early in straight, peaked on run 150M, kept on same pace to the line.

Between the 450 Metres and the 300 Metres was held up for clear running when being shifted to the outside of DIVANO. Noted to have bled from both nostrils after the race. Before being allowed to race again, MARKWIN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Sent for sampling post-race. <28/4/2025 Additional Veterinary Report>After the race, MARKWIN was found to have bled from both nostrils. MARKWIN was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer W K Mo this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. As previously advised, MARKWIN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.

Average to begin, raced in midfield on the inside, 2 wide turning in, one-paced in the run home.

Began well from gate 1, positioned 1 to 2 lengths behind the leader on the inside, moved a bit closer along the rail on turn, hit the front 350M, kept on strongly to the line, won by 1-1/2L.

On jumping made contact with MID WINTER WIND, shifted in and was then steadied away from DANCING CODE when that runner shifted out at the start. Noted to have lost its right front plate after the race.

Away well, positioned 2 wide, 2 lengths or so back, 3 wide approaching 600M, hard ridden after passing 350M and made some progress, peaked 150M, ran on evenly to the line.

K C Leung was warned in relation to using the whip forward of the saddle in a forehand manner on one occasion near the 100 Metres.

Moderately away, raced 2 wide behind midfield, 3 wide from 500M, one-paced in straight. (See Racing Incidents.)

Approaching the 900 Metres, when racing tight to the inside of HEALTHY HAPPY, commenced to race keenly and got its head up when being steadied.

Taken back from a wide draw, raced towards rear on the outside, a bit closer in the middle stages, 2-1/2L back turning in, finished off evenly.

Approaching the 300 Metres was steadied when crowded between TAJ DRAGON (J McDonald) which shifted in slightly and MARKWIN (H Bentley) which shifted out. J McDonald was advised to exercise more care. H Bentley was reprimanded.

Taken back from gate 11, raced at tail, 7 lengths in the middle stages, a bit closer on turn, made minor progress in straight.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the event B Avdulla stated that after settling back in the field his mount was disadvantaged when positioned behind TAJ DRAGON and MID WINTER WIND as those runners did not take him into the event. He said in the Home Straight YOUNG CHAMPION finished the race off only fairly but in his opinion was not suited by having to race back in the field. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Began only fairly, raced behind midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, made good progress early in straight, peaked 150M, ran on evenly to the line.

After the event Z Purton stated that DIVANO responded well to his riding in the early part of the Home Straight. He added that near the 100 Metres he had some concern with his mount’s action and for this reason he did not fully test DIVANO out to the finish of the event when he felt there was something amiss with it. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, DIVANO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Incident Report
After the event J McDonald stated that although TAJ DRAGON raced wide and without cover, when under pressure in the Home Straight he had concern with his horse’s action and as a result he eased it down from the event when not in a competitive position in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of TAJ DRAGON was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race start. Before being allowed to race again, TAJ DRAGON will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
