When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight and the reason he endeavoured to shift out to obtain clear running, M F Poon stated that his instructions were to endeavour to shift to the outside to obtain clear running in the Home Straight. He said as a consequence after following COLOURFUL PRINCE he then elected to shift to that runner’s outside with a view to obtaining clear running to the outside of HAPPY UNITED. He said his decision to do so was influenced by his instructions and also that he had expected both COLOURFUL PRINCE and HAPPY UNITED to shift back in towards the rail after running wide on the Home Turn. He said when HAPPY UNITED maintained its position away from the rail he became disappointed for clear running between HAPPY UNITED and CRYSTAL POWERFUL approaching the 300 Metres which resulted in him having to shift PLENTIFUL back to the inside to secure clear running near the 250 Metres. Trainer P C Ng confirmed that the preference was for Jockey Poon to shift to the outside in the Home Straight and in the circumstances he was satisfied with the tactics adopted by Jockey Poon. The Stewards also found the tactics adopted by Jockey Poon were reasonable in the circumstances having regard to his instructions. Sent for sampling post-race.

Moderately away from a wide draw, sent forward to race in 2nd, a length back on turn, kept on well in straight to take a place. (See Racing Incidents.)

Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping. Near the 700 Metres was steadied when crowded by E UNIVERSE (K De Melo) which shifted in when not clear. K De Melo was advised to exercise more care. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Began only fairly from gate 1, raced in midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, finished off evenly.

Jumped only fairly. Near the 600 Metres was crowded by SERGEANT PEPPER which shifted in after making contact with E UNIVERSE.

Bumped start, positioned 1-1/2L behind the leader on rail, saved ground on turn, kept on well early in straight, no extra final 100M.

Jumped only fairly. Shortly after the start then bumped with SERGEANT PEPPER which shifted in slightly. Near the 250 Metres was shifted to the outside of DECRELOT to obtain clear running. Near the 100 Metres became held up for clear running behind SERGEANT PEPPER and after shifting to that runner’s inside near the 50 Metres then could not be ridden out to the finish when held up behind HAPPY UNITED.

Taken back to race behind midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, peaked early in straight, weakened thereafter.
