Began only fairly, positioned 3 lengths behind the leader on the inside, there to turn, finished off strongly, just beaten by a narrow margin.

Incident Report
Near the 1200 Metres shifted in and made contact with the running rail. Sent for sampling post-race.

Began only fairly, raced 2 wide towards rear, angled out 450M, very wide turning in, made no impression in straight. (See Racing Incidents.)

Near the 450 Metres made contact with AESTHETICISM when shifting to the outside of GLORIOUS SUCCESS to commenced to improve. Sent for sampling post-race.

Made contact at start, trapped wide in midfield early, moved a bit closer after passing 1600M, 2 lengths or so back in the middle stages, peaked on run 500M, weakened final 400M.

Incident Report
Was bumped near the 450 Metres. Near the 300 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of SAMARKAND to continue into clear running.

Began smartly, sent forward to take the lead, travelled well to turn, peaked and headed 200M, weakened final 100M.

When questioned, L Hewitson stated that his instructions were to hold an on-pace position and lead if the pace of the event allowed him to do so. He said whilst SAMARKAND jumped well, when several runners drawn to his outside went forward, he elected to allow those runners to cross and settle slightly further back than had been anticipated.

Moderately away, raced 2 wide in midfield, weakened from 550M, eased early in straight. (See Racing Incidents.)

After the event, R Kingscote stated that the instructions were to take up an on-pace position with cover. He said when IVY LEAGUE commenced well it led without being pressured to do so.

Jumped awkwardly, made contact with the left side of its barrier and lost ground, positioned 4 to 5 lengths behind the leader on the inside, saved ground on turn, taken wide in straight and finished off well to take a place.

Had its right hind plate refitted in the saddling stalls, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. Jumped only fairly. After the 200 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when endeavouring to improve between M UNICORN and EXCELLENCE VALUE.

Made contact shortly after start, raced in 2nd, 2 wide, dropped towards rear from 550M, eased early in straight. (See Racing Incidents.)

From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the event, Y L Chung could offer no excuse for his mount’s disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Away well, raced 2 wide behind midfield, 3 wide from 500M, very wide into straight, one-paced in the run home.

In the early stages raced keenly and near the 1200 Metres was steadied to avoid DEVAS TWELVE. After the event, M L Yeung stated that the only explanation he could offer for the disappointing performance was that the horse may appreciate having more time between race starts. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
