Shortly after the start raced tight to the inside of CHATER GOLD which lay in.

Jumped well, raced 2 wide slightly better than midfield, there to turn, finished off well to take a place, no threat to the first two.

Jumped awkwardly and shortly after the start raced tight between FLYING LUCK and CARRYON SMILING which shifted out. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Made contact with a rail on the way to the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. Sent for sampling post-race.

Fast into stride, took the early lead, headed near 900M, allowed rival to cross approaching 750M, sat right behind the leader on turn, not enough room early in straight, ran on evenly thereafter.

When questioned, J McDonald stated that the instructions were to hold a midfield position. He said when MATSU VICTOR commenced well, he was caught wide in the early stages and initially endeavoured to obtain cover behind SMART BEAUTY. He said when unable to obtain cover and when the pace of the event was being run inside of standard time, he was obliged to race very wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Taken back from the widest draw, raced towards rear on the inside, saved ground on turn, failed to make any progress in straight.

After the event, K De Melo reported that the intention was to hold a slightly more forward position than at its previous race start. He said in the early stages when racing to the outside of STORM RUNNER and CELTIC TIMES, he was obliged to continue forward to cross those runners to avoid racing wide. He said as a result he was obliged to make some use of his mount to do so which caused CARRYON SMILING to race keenly in the early stages. Trainer W Y So confirmed the instructions issued.
