Bumped shortly after start, raced better than midfield but trapped 3 wide, travelled keenly, moved closer after passing 700M, no cover throughout, made some progress early in straight, peaked 100M, ran on evenly to the line.

Jumped well from the widest draw, sent forward to take the lead, led by 1/4L turning in, kept on well early in straight, peaked and headed 100M, stayed on evenly to take a place.

J Orman stated that from the inside barrier when his mount commenced well he was able to hold an on-pace position without having to apply pressure to his mount to do so. Sent for sampling post-race.

Average to begin, raced slightly behind midfield on the outside, 3-1/2L back turning in, showed very good response in straight, took the lead 100M, kept on very well to the line.

After travelling a short distance became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by VIVA FIRECRACKER which shifted out. In the early stages of the Home Straight lay in when being shifted to the outside of LUCKY MCQUEEN.

Began smartly from gate 11, raced prominently, 2 wide, there to turn, kept on well in straight to take 2nd.

Had its left hind plate adjusted in the holding stalls, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. Jumped only fairly. Shifted out after travelling a short distance, was bumped and became unbalanced. In the Home Straight raced greenly when placed under pressure. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”.

Fast into stride, raced in midfield on the inside, saved ground on turn, showed limited response early in straight, weakened gradually final 100M.

H Bentley reported that his mount anticipated the start and as a result commenced only fairly. He said approaching the first turn near the 1000 Metres LEAN MASTER commenced to race keenly and as a result got its head up when positioned close to the heels of FASHION LEGEND. He added LEAN MASTER then continued to race keenly throughout the middle stages of the event and refused to settle.

Taken back from gate 10, raced at rear throughout, never a factor.

Prior to declaring weighed-in the Stewards gave consideration as to whether SKY PHOENIX had been denied a fair start. After taking evidence from Senior Starter Mr A Speechley it was established that as the start was effected SKY PHOENIX reared simultaneously, resulting in its rider K Teetan being dislodged and SKY PHOENIX completing the course riderless. As the incident occurred simultaneously to the start being effected the horse was declared a runner. Before being allowed to race again, SKY PHOENIX will be required to perform satisfactorily in consecutive barrier trials. K Teetan was subsequently examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.
