He said after making contact with ROSEWOOD FLEETFOOT, MISSION STRIKE continued to lay in and was reluctant to improve between runners and finished the race off only fairly. In this incident, L Ferraris dropped his right rein for a number of strides. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Sent for sampling post-race.

In assessing penalty the Stewards were satisfied that his actions had not affected his finishing position in the race. After the event, D McDonogh confirmed that from the inside barrier the instructions were to lead the event. Trainer D A Hayes confirmed the instructions and said he issued such instructions as YOUTH POWER had a tendency to race keenly at its previous race starts and he was of the opinion that it may settle better in front.

He said near the 1200 Metres he allowed ACE WAR to stride forward where it obtained a position outside the lead passing the 1000 Metres.
