Near the 1200 Metres was crowded between LUCKY GOLD and BALLISTIC WIN which shifted out. Raced wide and without cover between the 900 Metres and approaching the 600 Metres where it was able to obtain a position behind BALLISTIC WIN when that runner shifted out.

Out with rest, positioned 3 wide, 3 lengths or so back, no cover for the majority of the race, peaked early in straight, weakened thereafter.

Near the 800 Metres was checked and blundered when it struck the heels of WISDOM STAR (see WISDOM STAR).

Average to begin, raced 2 wide slightly better than midfield, 2-3/4L back turning in, finished off well to take 2nd, no threat to the winner.

After the 1200 Metres commenced to race keenly and got its head up when being steadied away from BALLISTIC WIN. SMILING COLLECTOR continued to race keenly for some distance thereafter. Near the 900 Metres raced tight inside LUCKY GOLD. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Began well, in touch, 2 wide, there to turn, took the lead near 250M, kept on strongly to the line and scored.

Near the 800 Metres was taken wider by NEW FUTURE FOLKS when that runner was shifted to the outside of LAKESHORE HERO shortly after being crossed by that runner. When WISDOM STAR then attempted to obtain a position in behind NEW FUTURE FOLKS, WISDOM STAR became positioned close to the heels of NEW FUTURE FOLKS and as a result was checked and lost ground. The Stewards found the manner in which WISDOM STAR shifted in to obtain cover was the main reason for it having to be checked.

Began well, sent forward to take the lead, led by 1/2L, challenged by rival turning in, peaked and headed early in straight, weakened inside final furlong.

Slow to begin. Approaching the 1100 Metres was steadied to avoid YUEN LONG ELITE which shifted out. A short distance later CALIFORNIA STAR then commenced to race keenly and got its head up and shifted out when being positioned close to LUCKY GOLD. As a result, CALIFORNIA STAR was obliged to race very wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
