In the early stages raced keenly and near the 800 Metres got its head up when being steadied away from ROBOT KNIGHT. When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, Z Purton stated that near the 200 Metres he attempted to shift to the outside of ROBOT KNIGHT to secure clear running, however, his mount did not respond to his efforts and was reluctant to shift out. He said as a result he then elected to shift in to obtain clear running between ROBOT KNIGHT and GOLDEN LONG, however, when those runners shifted ground, DRAGON AIR FORCE was then held up for clear running until passing the 50 Metres where it shifted to the outside of GOLDEN LONG. After considering his explanation, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Purton were reasonable in the circumstances.

Moderately away from gate 1, raced in midfield on the inside, angled out after passing 500M, showed good response in straight, took the lead 250M, kept on very well to the line and scored.

After the event, M F Poon reported that his mount raced keenly and lay out on the first turn near the 800 Metres which resulted in it being awkwardly placed close to SHANGHAI STYLE.

Fast into stride, sent forward to take the lead, led by 3/4L, challenged by rival turning in, peaked and headed 400M, weakened 300M, eased final furlong. (Blood in trachea.)

Near the 200 Metres was eased when crowded between SMART LEADER and DRAGON AIR FORCE which shifted to the inside of ROBOT KNIGHT.

Jumped awkwardly, taken back to race at rear on the inside, 2 wide after passing 550M, 4 lengths or so back turning in, no clear run until 100M, kept on well to make frame without threatening.

On jumping was crowded by DAILY TROPHY which shifted out. M L Yeung was warned for using his whip on a number of occasions in the Home Straight where his whip arm was raised above shoulder height.

Slightly slow out, raced behind midfield on the inside, 5 lengths back, saved ground on turn, no clear run early in straight, made no impression thereafter.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the event, B Avdulla reported that his mount lacked concentration and he recommended to connections that RIDING HIGH would benefit with the addition of blinkers. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned, C Y Ho stated that his instructions were to hold an on-pace position. He said JOLLY COMPANION jumped only fairly from the outside barrier and did not show sufficient pace in the early stages to go forward. He added when unable to obtain cover on his mount in the early stages JOLLY COMPANION was obliged to race very wide and without cover throughout the event before giving ground in the Home Straight. Trainer K L Man confirmed the instructions issued. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
