Raced prominently behind leader, travelling extremely well turning for home, led 250M and was only pushed out to the line. Maintained his unbeaten record with something in hand.

From draw 3 dropped back to race near last, kept to inside throughout, closed off quite well to go 2nd close home without troubling the winner. (Jockey fined for returning 3 lbs overweight.)

Jumped on terms from draw 1, positioned ahead of midfield and always in touch with leaders, kept on steadily under pressure final 300M but couldn't close to winner. Lost 2nd near line.

Away well enough, restrained to race in midfield, had 5Ls to make up on leader 400M, ran on steadily to the line for 4th without troubling the easy winner.

Approaching the 500 Metes was steadied and shifted out to avoid SHANGHAI WARRIOR.

From wide draw taken back to last and was given a waiting ride, 8Ls behind leader 400M, closed off fastest under top weight but couldn't be ridden out final 50M when held up between rivals.

From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 500 Metres shifted out and was steadied to avoid GREATER BAE. Over the final 50 Metres could not be ridden out when held up between REFUSETOBEENGLISH and ALL OUT FOR SIX.

Pressed forward, emerged as leader 850M setting good pace to straight, headed by winner near 250M, faded late to finish 6th.

Approaching the winning post was eased when crowded between SZERYNG and AURIO which was improving between ALL OUT FOR SIX and REFUSETOBEENGLISH.

Reserved in a rearward spot 6-7Ls off leader in a genuinely run race, pushed along 500M, ran home well enough but had too much to make up on leaders.

Bustled along after the start to obtain a position ahead of midfield, shifted in abruptly 500M resulting in rider losing balance, failed to pick up pace in the straight. (Warning placed on the horse's racing manners.)

When questioned M F Poon stated that approaching the 500 Metres his mount, which was having its first race start in Hong Kong, shifted in abruptly, resulting in him losing balance and his right foot being dislodged from his stirrup for some distance thereafter. A warning was placed on the racing manners of SHANGHAI WARRIOR.

Jumped on terms, eased back to race in second half of the field, failed to respond on straightening. Never dangerous. (Jockey could offer no excuse for the horse's performance / Roarer.)

L Hewitson could offer no excuse for the horse’s performance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.

Travelled behind midfield 3-wide without cover, lost ground when checked 500M, failed to run on in the straight and finished tailed out. (Unacceptable Performance / No Vet findings.)

M L Yeung reported that approaching the 500 Metres he was obliged to check his mount to avoid FRIENDS OF SHAJING when that runner shifted out to avoid SHANGHAI WARRIOR. He added that after this incident SPICY GOLD failed to run on thereafter. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SPICY GOLD, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SPICY GOLD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
