When questioned regarding the improved performance Trainer Y S Tsui stated that the horse was advantaged tonight by drawing an inside barrier as compared to its previous four race starts where it was drawn barrier 12. He said after the horse’s last run on 2 November 2025 where it was obliged to race wide and without cover he gave the horse a short let-up and this, in his opinion, also contributed to its improved performance tonight. Sent for sampling post-race.

Began only fairly, raced behind midfield on the inside, angled out after passing 500M, 4 lengths back turning in, made good progress in straight to take 2nd.

Jumped only fairly. L Ferraris was reprimanded for using the whip forward of the saddle in a forehand manner on one occasion near the 100 Metres. Sent for sampling post-race.

Away well, positioned 2 lengths behind the leader, peaked on turn, weakened final furlong.

Began well from a wide draw, raced 2 wide in midfield, moved closer after passing 750M, 3 wide turning in, showed good response in straight, took the lead 150M, peaked and headed 50M, ran on evenly.

Near the 400 Metres was steadied when awkwardly placed between HAPPY HORSE and MACANESE MASTER.

Moderately away from gate 1, raced slightly better than midfield on the inside, peaked on turn, weakened and eased inside final furlong.

Near the 350 Metres made contact with COLONEL when racing tight between ORIENTAL SURPRISE and COLONEL.

Bumped start, raced in 2nd, 3/4L back, pressed leader on turn, kept on well early in straight, peaked 150M, weakened thereafter.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Bumped passing the 50 Metres.

Began only fairly and made contact, raced 2 wide behind midfield, 3 wide after passing 800M, moved closer 600M, 2-1/2L back turning in, finished off well to score.

Jumped awkwardly. Passing the 50 Metres was eased when awkwardly placed to the inside of MACANESE MASTER. A short distance later shifted out and made contact with MODEST GENTLEMAN.

Jumped awkwardly, raced towards rear on the inside, saved ground to turn, angled out 400M, made good progress in straight to be nearest on line.

Made contact at start, raced 2 wide towards rear, commenced move approaching 800M, very wide on turn, made some headway in straight.

L Hewitson could offer no explanation for his mount’s failure to run on in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Jumped with them, raced at rear throughout, never a factor.

In the early stages of the Home Straight lay in and proved difficult to ride. D Probert reported that the instructions from the outside barrier were to ride the horse with cover. He said in the early stages CAMP FIRE raced keenly and refused to settle and near the 800 Metres got its head up when being checked away from GLORIOUS EXPERT. Trainer D J Whyte confirmed the instructions issued and stated that at its last start it had not been the intention to lead, however, on that occasion CAMP FIRE jumped well and was able to lead the event contrary to the instructions he had issued.

Made contact at start, took the lead, led by 3/4L, challenged by rival on turn, peaked and headed approaching 150M, weakened and eased thereafter.

Near the 350 Metres was bumped. M F Poon stated that his mount was disadvantaged by racing wide and without cover and in addition would be better suited by being stepped up in distance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
