Began well from gate 1, raced slightly behind midfield, nearer to the middle track, 3 to 4 lengths back at 400M, hard ridden 300M but showed no response, weakened thereafter.

Jumped only fairly, raced towards rear on the stands' side, moved closer in the middle stages, unable to obtain clear run until final 100M, finished off strongly to take 2nd. (See Racing Incidents.)

Jumped awkwardly. From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Over the final 100 Metres lay in when being ridden out. Sent for sampling post-race.

Jumped well, positioned a length behind the leader on the stands' side, hard ridden after passing 400M, kept on well until approaching 100M, weakened gradually close home.

Jumped only fairly. In the middle stages raced keenly and for some distance after the 800 Metres was steadied away from THE CONCENTRATION. Near the 200 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between ALMIGHTY KICK and THE CONCENTRATION. As a result, THE KHAN was steadied and shifted to the outside of THE CONCENTRATION where it secured clear running approaching the 150 Metres.

Commenced well, positioned 2 to 3 lengths behind the leader, 2 away from the stands' rail, hard ridden from 300M but only showed limited response, weakened gradually final 100M. (Lame right front leg next day.)

After the event, H Bowman advised his instructions were to ride his mount in a more positive manner today. He said as a result he encouraged his mount forward on jumping and RAGNARR showed sufficient pace to hold a position in the lead. Trainer D J Hall confirmed the instructions issued.

Fast into stride, tracked leaders on the stands' rail, ridden after passing 400M but not enough room, weakened gradually from 250M, inconvenienced 150M, eased final 100M.

Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and was bumped. Between the 300 Metres and the 100 Metres was held up for clear running between FLYING PHANTOM and WIND SPEEDER. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Made contact with the left side of its barrier on jumping, always outpaced and behind.

Bumped shortly after the start and became unbalanced. In the middle stages raced keenly and leaving the 700 Metres was shifted to the outside of RAGNARR to avoid that runner. After the event, R Moore stated that his mount travelled reasonably well until approaching the 250 Metres when it raced in restricted room between RAGNARR and WOODFIRE CHAMP which lay in slightly. He said in this incident his mount became unbalanced and blundered. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FLYING PHANTOM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Sent for sampling post-race.

Stumbled as stalls opened and missed break, raced at rear throughout, never a factor. (See Racing Incidents.)

Shortly after the start was crowded between FLYING PHANTOM and ALMIGHTY KICK, both of which shifted ground. After the event, T Marquand stated that after having to steady and shift to the outside of WIND SPEEDER on the Home Turn, his mount failed to respond to his riding in the Home Straight and was disappointing. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of FALCON COURT, a last start winner, was considered disappointing. Before being allowed to race again, FALCON COURT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
