After the event, Z Purton advised that the instructions were to hold a midfield position with cover. He said in the early stages when caught wide he elected to come back to obtain cover behind YEE CHEONG RAIDER to avoid racing wide. He said as a result DRAGON JOY was obliged to race further back in the field than instructed. Trainer P F Yiu confirmed the instructions issued.

Jumped only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 150 Metres raced tight between SOMELOVEFROMABOVE and CIRCUIT MIGHTY when improving between those two runners.

Taken back from gate 10, raced 2 wide at rear, 7 lengths back, same margin back on turn, passed some tired runners in straight.

In the Home Straight lay out under pressure. For some distance after the 200 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when improving between CIRCUIT MIGHTY and RUN RUN TIMING. After the event, M Chadwick reported that from the outside barrier he was instructed to ride his mount conservatively in the early stages as when MAX QUE was having its first race start it did not appreciate racing in a more forward position. Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued.

Jumped with them, sent forward to take the lead, led by 1-1/2L turning in, peaked and headed 250M, weakened final 150M. (See Racing Incidents.)

Shortly after the start was crowded between BRILLIANT EXPRESS and ALL EYES ON ME which shifted out slightly.

Out with rest, raced 2 wide slightly behind midfield, angled out 550M, 5-1/2L back turning in, made good progress in straight to make frame without threatening.

Bumped at the start. After the event, H Bowman reported that the intention was to hold a slightly more forward position but when caught wide in the early stages he elected to endeavour to obtain a trailing position behind RUN RUN TIMING. He said as he attempted to do so, the pace of the event eased which resulted in BRILLIANT EXPRESS racing a little keenly. He said after obtaining cover leaving the 900 Metres, the pace of the event quickened and as a result he was obliged to start riding his mount along to make up ground. He added whilst under pressure on the Home Turn BRILLIANT EXPRESS lay out and after responding to his riding in the early part of the Home Straight lost momentum near the 170 Metres when it awkwardly passed a mark on the track at that point. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Sent for sampling post-race.

For some distance approaching the 900 Metres raced tight to the inside of BRILLIANT EXPRESS (H Bowman) and near the 900 Metres was eased to avoid BRILLIANT EXPRESS when that runner shifted in when not quite clear. H Bowman was advised to exercise more care.

Away with them, positioned 5 lengths behind the leader on the inside, 2 wide after passing 500M, same margin back turning in, showed limited response early in straight, weakened inside final furlong.
