When questioned, Z Purton stated that from the outside barrier the intention was to ride COURIER ALADDIN in a conservative manner in the early stages to avoid covering additional ground, particularly with his mount racing first up today. He said with the pace of the event being run inside of standard time throughout the early stages, COURIER ALADDIN settled back in the field and from the 600 Metres he attempted to improve into the race three wide. He added after entering the Home Straight COURIER ALADDIN made a respiratory noise and responded only fairly to his riding, but, in his opinion, would be better suited by being stepped up in distance for its next race start. Trainer J Richards confirmed the instructions and said such instructions were issued to avoid COURIER ALADDIN being obliged to race wide had he elected to go forward. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”. Sent for sampling post-race.
