TORONADO, a son of HIGH CHAPARRAL and the former Al Shaqab Racing runner, with a record of 6 wins and 3 seconds in 12 starts while Richard Hughes as his regular jockey, winning distance from 1300M to 1600M. He remained unbeaten when he was 2 until being ran down by DAWN APPROACH in 2000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes under the care of Richard Hannon Sr., but he fought back in Sussex Stakes afterwards. He landed Queen Anne Stakes for trainer Richard Hannon as a 5YO. After that, he made his move to Breeders' Cup Mile but failed. He entered stud in 2015, 52 runners of him won the black type contests, HK representatives found The Centenary Sprint Cup winner VICTOR THE WINNER and two Hong Kong Classic Mile winners HELIOS EXPRESS and LITTLE PARADISE. His service fee in 2026 is AUD$ 88,000. LEAN ERA was sold at NZD$ 110,000 in 2024 NZB Ready To Run Sale where he finished 200M breeze up in 10.55s. He was trained by Mark Walker & Sam Bergerson, and Nick Kneebone in New Zealand and took part in 3 barrier trials where he settled third early but ran on only fairly for fifth under whip in an 800M section (1st Apr 2025) on good going, then led early and kept on one-paced for second in a 900M trial (23rd Sept 2025) on heavy ground where KING ZOOM finished third. On his last overseas trial over 1150M (9th Oct 2025), he shared lead early and drawing clear late to win on heavy ground. His full-sister ENIGMATISE has been placed over 2000M. The bay gelding should be a middle distance runner and fine on soft going.
