Champions League AI Predictions: 227 Settled Bets, +20.5% ROI, and a Losing Recent Run
The short version: the 2025-26 Champions League produced 723 goals in 207 matches — 3.49 per match, the highest rate of any competition we track. We settled 227 bets on it between January and May 2026 at +20.5% ROI across 34 matches. The last eight of those matches are collectively down 1.69 units.
That last sentence is the one no competitor page carries, so it goes near the top rather than in a footnote. A profitable overall record containing a losing recent stretch is what a real edge looks like. A record that only ever goes up is a record that has been filtered.
3.49 goals a match is the highest we see anywhere
Every figure below is real, from each competition's most recent season, read on 28 July 2026:
| Competition | Matches | Goals | Per match |
|---|
| UEFA Champions League | 207 | 723 | 3.49 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bundesliga | 307 | 991 | 3.23 |
| Eredivisie | 309 | 982 | 3.18 |
| Chinese Super League | 156 | 483 | 3.10 |
| Saudi Pro League | 306 | 921 | 3.01 |
| Europa League | 212 | 611 | 2.88 |
| Premier League | 380 | 1045 | 2.75 |
| Serie A | 380 | 922 | 2.43 |
The reason is structural. The 36-team league phase pairs elite sides against qualifiers with no business being there, and those matches are blowouts. Galatasaray 5-2 Juventus and PSG 5-4 Bayern are both in our settled record below. The mid-table of a domestic league has nothing like that spread.
Practical consequence: a totals line that looks generous by Premier League standards is often fair here, and the value in this competition sits more often in handicaps than in overs — the market has learned the goals part.

The last eight matches, including the bad ones
Scorelines are final results you can verify anywhere. The right-hand column is what one unit staked per bet returned on that match.
| Date | Match | Score | Bets | Units |
|---|
| 05-30 | Paris Saint-Germain vs Arsenal | 1-1 | 1 | +0.06 |
| 05-06 | Bayern München vs Paris Saint-Germain | 1-1 | 2 | +3.25 |
| 05-05 | Arsenal vs Atlético Madrid | 1-0 | 1 | −1.00 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 04-28 | Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern München | 5-4 | 1 | +1.50 |
| 02-24 | Inter vs Bodø/Glimt | 1-2 | 2 | −2.50 |
| 02-24 | Bayer Leverkusen vs Olympiakos | 0-0 | 1 | −1.00 |
| 02-18 | Bodø/Glimt vs Inter | 3-1 | 1 | −2.00 |
| 02-17 | Galatasaray vs Juventus | 5-2 | 2 | 0.00 |
Bodø/Glimt beat Inter twice and cost us 4.5 units across the two legs. That is the whole story of Champions League variance in one tie: a side from the Norwegian league eliminated one of Europe's best-drilled defensive teams, and no model that priced Inter correctly would have seen it coming.
The overall record is +20.5%. This stretch is −1.69. Both are true, and a site showing you only the first one is showing you a marketing number.
The 2025-26 Champions League in numbers
36 clubs played 207 matches and scored 723 goals. The rest of the shape:
- Clean sheet rate 56%. A defence keeps one in roughly 56% of matches — considerably higher than the Chinese Super League's 39%, despite the higher goal rate. Both facts together describe the competition well: a lot of one-sided matches, where one side scores freely and the other is shut out.
- 3.74 cards per match, 40 red cards across the season. Lower than most domestic leagues, which is what elite refereeing appointments and better-disciplined squads produce.
- Formations: 18 of the 36 clubs line up in 4-2-3-1 more than anything else, six in 3-4-2-1, five in 4-3-3, four in 4-4-2, and three other shapes are each a single club's first choice.
The two extremes
| Club | Rate |
|---|
| Most goals scored | Bayern München | 3.07 |
| Paris Saint-Germain | 2.71 | |
| Barcelona | 2.67 | |
| Fewest conceded | Arsenal | 0.53 |
|---|---|---|
| Pafos | 1.00 | |
| Benfica | 1.07 | |
| Most clean sheets | Arsenal | 9 |
| Tottenham / Benfica | 6 each |
A number like that is exactly what tempts a model into over-confidence, and it is worth reading against our own record: our one settled bet on Arsenal vs Atlético Madrid lost, in a match Arsenal won 1-0. Being right about a team's quality and right about a betting line are different problems.
Bayern's 3.07 goals a match at the other end is a reminder that the same competition contains both.
How the model reads this competition
The per-club scoring and conceding rates above are among its inputs, along with odds movement and in-play state. The method:
- 1Dixon-Coles bivariate Poisson with a low-score correction. Football produces 0-0, 1-0 and 1-1 more often than a plain Poisson predicts.
- 2Shin de-vigging to strip the bookmaker margin and recover the implied probability.
- 3Isotonic calibration, so a stated 70% has historically happened about 70% of the time.
- 4Fractional Kelly staking, sizing by edge rather than flat-staking.
The model reads no news, no injury rumours, and no language-model memory. Structured data only.
Two competition-specific notes. The league phase is a genuinely new format with limited history, so the model leans harder on odds movement there than on historical priors. And Champions League team strength is drawn from clubs playing in eight different domestic leagues with different baselines, which is why the per-league goal rates at the top of this article matter to the model, not just to the reader.

Questions
Are the Champions League predictions accurate?
As of 28 July 2026: 227 settled bets at +20.5% ROI across 34 matches, between January and May 2026. The site-wide record is broader and more useful as a reference — 10,521 bets, +17.1% ROI, 56.3% win rate — and every match is listed on the performance page.
Why is the Champions League higher-scoring than domestic leagues?
The 36-team league phase pairs elite clubs against qualifiers, producing a wider spread of team quality than any domestic league has. Blowouts pull the average up. It is a structural feature of the format, not a stylistic one.
Do you publish losing bets?
Yes, and this article leads on a losing stretch. The last eight settled Champions League matches are down 1.69 units against a +20.5% overall record. Settled records stay published, unedited.
